Evidence of Effectiveness
Results from a quasi-experimental evaluation conducted in the 2017-2018 academic year (published in 2020) supported the effectiveness of GiveThx for high school students. This evaluation included 243 grade 9 through 12 students in an urban school district in the U.S. West region (85% Hispanic/Latinx, 10% Asian/Asian American; 80% of participating students were eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (FRPL)). This evaluation found that students receiving instruction using GiveThx showed significantly greater growth in student-report positive affect, friend satisfaction, and overall life satisfaction compared to students in the control group (outcomes reported approximately six weeks after baseline, while controlling for outcome pre-test). Additionally, students receiving instruction using GiveThx showed significantly greater declines in student-reported anxiety and negative affect compared to students in the control group over the same period.
